of the Department
1.INTRODUCTION
:
The Department of English of Women’s College made a humble beginning
in 1965 with only one guest lecturer, but gradually the teaching
activities of the department have acquired a wider perspective with
the introduction of courses like English Major/ Honours, core/
Elective in English, compulsory English, Foundation(MIL),
Communicative English, spoken English Programme and a General paper
for BCA. The overall performance of the department is extremely
good. Many students of the department have qualified in different

Organised a National Seminar on “Post independence Indian Fiction in English on 22-23 July, 2011.

Collaborated Ramthakur College to organize a National Seminar on “New Lights on Indian Women Novelists in English” on 6th & 7th March, 2010.

Organised three State-Level Teachers’ training Programme on ‘Effective Communication skills’ in collaboration with British Council, Kolkata in the year 2009, 2010 &2011.

Arranged a Special Talk on Ghasiram Kotwal By the Director of National School of Drama.

Interviews of Soumitra Chatterjee, Pandit Shib Kumar Sharma are taken by the students of Communicative English.

Documentary films on Old Age Home and Street Children are made by the students of Communicative English.

Arranged a special Talk on Indian English Poetry by Dr. Rama Prasad Biswas.

Arranged a talk on English as a Communicative Language by Nilanjan Bala.

Organised an Interaction Programme between Students and Actress Nandita Das.

Organised a Two-days State-Level workshop on Challenges in Teaching English language. The main speakers are Prof. M. Q. khan, Ex V.C, Berhampur University, Dr. Prabhas Dhar and Dr. B.P. Mukherjee.
